The Root Canal Treatment is done to repair and save a badly damaged tooth. It is a procedure which involves the cleaning of canals inside the tooth root. Some decades ago the root canal treatment was painful, however with the advancement in dental treatment and local anesthetics, most people have less pain with a rotten tooth. In fact it is more painful to live with a decayed tooth.

The procedure involves removing the diseased tissue from the tooth. It is then resealed and filled to get rid of the infection. Root Canal Treatment is required when there is a:

Severe toothache: When there is a severe tooth pain which is only relieved with the intake of cold water, and the pain further increases with the intake of hot liquids.

Sitting Posture: The pain aggravates when lying down and becomes less on sitting.

Swelling: When there is swelling all around the teeth.

Tooth pain: The pain in the tooth is extreme and constant.

Pain in chewing: There is a pain while chewing food or anything else.

Sensitivity: You experience sensitivity while consuming sweet dish or sweets.

Pain in other parts: The pain is related to head and ear as well.

If your child's primary tooth is damaged then your dentist might refer to a pediatric dentist. A Root Canal Treatment is successful when the tooth is not pulled out, as keeping the tooth helps to keep other teeth aligned and prevents jaw issues. It is always better to save natural teeth than replace it with an artificial tooth.

After root canal treatment, the tooth has to be restored to make it look, work and feel like a natural tooth. If an endodontist carries out root canal treatment then he or she might use a permanent filling. The choice of restoration usually depends on the strength of the part of the tooth that is damaged.

For example, chewing is a process that requires good amount of force which is with the help of the teeth located at the back of the jaw, so they require a crown. If the remaining tooth is not enough then posts might be required to support the crown.

Usually the Root Canal Treatment might require 1 or 2 appointments. After the treatment the teeth becomes tender for the first two weeks. Severe pain and swelling are common. If the issue continues then you must contact the dentists. Though most root canal treatments are successful, in rare cases a second treatment may be required which is known as retreatment. When re-treating a root the root canal filling material is taken out, this is reshaped, refilled and re-cleaned.
